Comprehensive Care Q & A

What types of dentistry do you offer?

Dr. Householder offers a comprehensive suite of oral health services including general, preventive, and cosmetic dentistry.

What is preventive dentistry?

Preventive dentistry encourages you to take good care of your teeth and gums. By practicing good oral hygiene, you can significantly lower your risk of common problems like tooth decay and gum disease.

Biannual checkup

The American Dental Association says you should visit the dentist once every six months. During a biannual checkup, your dental hygienist performs a thorough exam, reviews your medical history, and asks you a series of questions about your oral health.

Next, your dental hygienist carefully removes plaque and tartar from the surface of your teeth. After removing the plaque, he flosses and polishes your teeth. Finally, your hygienist takes a series of digital X-rays to get a better look at your root canals, jawbones, and gums.

Fluoride treatment and dental sealants

Topical fluoride therapy strengthens weak or damaged teeth and addresses common problems like tooth sensitivity. Fluoride treatment is particularly beneficial for young children and seniors as it significantly mitigates the risk of cavities.

For teeth affected by decay, Dr. Householder also offers sealants. Dental sealants cover a damaged portion of your tooth, restoring its strength and aesthetic appearance.

What is cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry is a branch of oral health care focused on improving the appearance of your teeth and smile. Dr. Householder offers:

Orthodontic consultations

If you have crooked or crowded teeth, you may want to consider orthodontic treatment. Dr. Householder regularly performs orthodontic consultations for children and adults. If Dr. Householder thinks you can benefit from orthodontic treatment, he refers you to an orthodontist in the area.

Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic treatment that eradicates stains from the surface of your teeth’s enamel. Dr. Householder offers in-office whitening with GLO Science® as well as take-home whitening kits from ProWhite.

Dentures

Dentures, or false teeth, mimic the look and feel of your permanent teeth. Dr. Householder and the team offer comprehensive geriatric oral care, including access to partial and full dentures. In addition to replacing teeth, dentures improve your facial appearance and make chewing and speaking easier.

Crowns and bridges

Dr. Householder also offers crowns and bridges. He doesn’t perform implant dentistry on-site, but he can refer you for implant surgery. Following implant surgery, Dr. Householder can also design and order your implant crowns.

Do you offer special needs dentistry?

In addition to preventive and cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Householder offers treatment for special needs patients. He regularly provides oral exams and cleanings for people with autism and Down syndrome. Dr. Householder also sees patients on stretchers and is one of the few dentists in the area who coordinates care for pregnant women.
